Something else on your mind? Call or text Mackenzie and Dan at 519-670-3027.

Is St. Thomas a good place to live?

For many buyers, yes. You get lower prices than London, good parks, a real main street and Lake Erie about 25 minutes away. It suits first time buyers, young families and London commuters. It is less suited to anyone who wants big city amenities or plans to rely on transit.

    Where is St. Thomas, Ontario?

It sits between London, about 28 km to the north, and Port Stanley on Lake Erie, about 15 km to the south. The city is Elgin County's seat but governs itself separately.

How much does a house in St. Thomas cost?

Around $582,400 was the median list price in June 2026, close to $300 per square foot. Most newer subdivision homes sit between the high $300,000s and the $500,000s, while premium pockets such as The Ridge and Freeman Lane top out near $700,000. Ask us for recent sales on your street.

    What schools serve St. Thomas?

The Thames Valley District School Board runs the public schools and the London District Catholic School Board runs the Catholic ones, and French immersion is available. Families can also look at St. Thomas Community Christian School, and Fanshawe College has a campus in town. Catchments depend on your address, so always confirm with the board.

What is the population of St. Thomas?

The 2021 Census counted 42,840 people, 10.1% more than in 2016. City forecasts, which are projections rather than counts, expect about 79,500 by 2051.

Can you live in St. Thomas and work in London?

By car, yes. Downtown London is about 40 minutes away and Highway 401 about 20 minutes from downtown St. Thomas, with some east end neighbourhoods closer still. We could not confirm a regional bus to London.

What is the Volkswagen battery plant in St. Thomas?

PowerCo, part of Volkswagen, is building an EV battery plant worth about $7 billion in the city's northeast end. Production is expected in 2027, with about 3,000 direct jobs.

Which St. Thomas neighbourhoods should I look at?

Harvest Run and Miller's Pond have newer homes, Orchard Park South has a wide mix of styles, Shaw Valley sits on a ravine, and The Ridge and Freeman Lane are the premium end. Downtown has the century homes.

Why do people call St. Thomas the Railway City?

By 1914 eight railways served the city and upward of 100 trains passed through daily. Sitting halfway between Detroit and Buffalo made it a major rail stop.

What happened to Jumbo the elephant?

A train struck and killed Jumbo, P.T. Barnum's star elephant, on September 15, 1885, right here in St. Thomas. The city unveiled a life size statue of him in 1985, a century later.

What is the Elevated Park in St. Thomas?

It turns the old Michigan Central rail bridge above Kettle Creek into a park, and it is billed as Canada's first elevated park.
