    How Hyde Park got here

    1. 1818

The Routledge family settles here and names it Hyde Park, roughly eight years ahead of London's first log cabin.

    2. 1859

A post office opens at the crossroads now called Hyde Park Rd and Gainsborough Rd.

    3. 1888

The CPR arrives, running just a few feet from the older Great Western tracks.

    4. 1963

Hyde Park Corner is officially shortened to Hyde Park.

    5. 1993

London annexes the area, and most of today's homes are built after that.

Hyde Park, London Ontario: your questions answered

Something else on your mind? Call or text Mackenzie and Dan at 519-670-3027.

Is Hyde Park a good place to live?

For families and anyone who values convenience, yes. Hyde Park has newer homes, French immersion options and some of London's busiest shopping, plus a village corner with Unger's Market and community events. It is less suited to anyone wanting mature trees, older character homes or life without a car.

Where is Hyde Park in London, Ontario?

Northwest London. It sits south of Fanshawe Park Road West, running from near Wonderland Road in the east to near Denfield Road in the west. The southern edge depends on the source: some say Gainsborough Road, others Sarnia Road.

How much does a house in Hyde Park cost?

No sold average is published for Hyde Park. In 2026, listings spanned about $410,000 to $1.1 million, and the median list price was around $689,000. Condos start near $350,000, townhomes run $450,000 to $650,000 and detached homes roughly $550,000 to $950,000. Ask us what has actually sold on your street.

    What schools serve Hyde Park?

Elementary choices are Emily Carr Public School, St. Marguerite d'Youville Catholic School and, for French immersion, St. John French Immersion Catholic School. Teens usually go to St. André Bessette Catholic Secondary or Sir Frederick Banting Secondary. Boundaries shift as the area grows, so always confirm with the school board.

What is the postal code for Hyde Park?

Hyde Park addresses use the N6G and N6H postal code prefixes. The neighbourhood is mostly in Ward 7 in the City of London.

Is Hyde Park older than London?

Yes. Hyde Park Corner was settled by the Routledge family around 1818, roughly eight years before anyone built London's first log cabin beside the Thames.

Why is it called Hyde Park?

Settlers from Cumberland, England, the Routledge family chose the name Hyde Park for their new home. No one is sure why, since Hyde Park is a well known park in London, England, not a place in Cumberland.

When did Hyde Park become part of London?

It was mostly farmland and countryside until 1993, when London annexed it. The bulk of today's homes came later.

Is shopping close by in Hyde Park?

Very. Walmart, Home Depot, HomeSense and an LCBO anchor the big plaza on the corner of Hyde Park Road and Fanshawe Park Road. Unger's Market and other local shops are at the village corner on Gainsborough Road.

What is being built in Hyde Park?

In November 2025, council approved a pair of 15 storey apartment towers for 1269 Hyde Park Road, the former Crossings Pub site. New subdivisions also continue across the area.

What events happen in Hyde Park?

Residents hold a yearly neighbourhood garage sale, and the Hyde Park BIA puts on PondFest, the Santa Claus Parade, seasonal scavenger hunts and a Christmas Market.

How far is Hyde Park from downtown London?

About 20 minutes by car, or around 40 minutes by bus. Western and University Hospital are about 10 minutes by car.
